Gutters, soffit & fascia by Watson Exteriors

Alberta · Saskatchewan · Manitoba

Eavestrough that moves
water away from the house.

Eavestrough is the part of an exterior nobody thinks about until water is running down the wall or pooling against the foundation. It is also the first thing an adjuster looks at after a hailstorm, because dented aluminium is the easiest damage in the world to verify. On-site assessments are $150.

What's involved

Gutters, soffit & fascia,
done properly.

Four components that only work as a system — get one wrong and the other three carry the consequences.

Eavestrough · Downspouts · Soffit · Fascia

Eavestrough

Sized and pitched for the roof area feeding it. Undersized eavestrough overflows in exactly the storms it exists for, and on a prairie downpour that means water going straight down the wall you just paid to re-clad.

Downspouts

Routed and extended to move water away from the foundation instead of into it. This is the cheapest foundation protection money buys, and the part most often left short by whoever installed it.

Soffit

Soffit carries your attic ventilation. Blocked or damaged soffit shows up months later as ice damming, attic condensation and premature shingle failure — problems nobody connects back to the soffit until someone looks.

Fascia

The board your eavestrough hangs off. If it has gone soft behind the metal, new eavestrough bolted to it will sag within a season, which is why we inspect it before quoting the replacement.

Hail and storm damage

Aluminium dents where shingles bruise, which makes eavestrough some of the clearest evidence in a claim. Most prairie hail claims cover eavestrough alongside roofing, siding and screens rather than as a separate item — our hail damage and insurance claims page covers how we document it.

Common questions

Gutters, soffit & fascia.

Can you replace just the eavestrough?

Yes. It is one of the few exterior jobs that genuinely stands alone, and it is often the cheapest fix for water pooling against a foundation or running down a wall.

Are gutter guards worth it?

Depends on your trees. Under mature poplars or spruce, yes — you will otherwise be up a ladder twice a year. On an open lot with nothing overhanging, the money is usually better spent elsewhere. We will give you a straight answer for your property rather than selling the upgrade by default.

Is eavestrough covered by hail insurance?

Usually, when there is other storm damage on the property. Dented aluminium is straightforward for an adjuster to verify, which is why we photograph and document it thoroughly as part of the claim.

How do I know if my soffit is the problem?

Ice damming along the eaves in winter, frost or moisture in the attic, and shingles ageing faster on one slope are all signs ventilation is restricted. It is worth checking before you replace a roof, not after.
